Upcoming Events in April


As you know, April is the month of Earth Day and 
Greenfest in Athens. ALT is involved in several 
activities during April and we are inviting you 
to take part in any or all of them.

Friend of EarthFare, April 1-30
ALT has been chosen as the Friend of EarthFare 
for the month of April! For using recycled bags 
at each shopping trip, EarthFare donates $.10 to 
ALT, so please take your own bag when you shop at 
EarthFare or pick up one from the box at the 
entrance.  Also, if you are willing to provide 
bags or help to give out bags at the store, 
please contact the ALT office at 706-613-0122.

Habitat and ALT Women Build, April 1-5
ALT and Habitat are working together to build a 
home on ALT's lot at 883 Waddell Street. This 
effort combines Habitat's volunteer labor with 
the permanent affordability provided by ALT. To 
volunteer at the house, contact Habitat at 706-208-1001.

Hands on Athens, April 4, 5, and 6
This year ALT is sponsoring the work on the home 
of Ms. Fannie Jordan at 650 W. Hancock. If you 
can join us to paint or landscape any time during 
the weekend, please check in at the Hands On 
Athens registration at the Athens Community 
Council on Aging Historic Depot, 135 Hoyt Street, 
and tell them you are an ALT volunteer. They can 
provide you with directions to 650 W. Hancock. 
Suggested volunteer shifts are 8:30 a.m. - noon and 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.

EarthFare Cookout, April 12
ALT will present information about our farmland 
protection program during EarthFare's store 
cookout featuring locally grown produce.  The 
cookout will be held from noon to 2 p.m.

Greenfest Awards Ceremony, April 18
Join us at the Lyndon House Arts Center for ALT's 
first conservation awards, which will highlight 
significant conservation efforts during the past 
year. Refreshments and music are provided at the 
reception, beginning at 5:30 p.m., and the 
presentation is at 6:15 p.m. Many other awards 
are given at the ceremony--it's a great way to 
celebrate the numerous local efforts to support the environment!

Five Acre Woods Cleanup, April 19
On April 19, ALT is sponsoring a volunteer 
workday at the Five Acre Woods on Northside 
Drive. Come join us from 9 a.m. to noon at this 
natural county park protected with a conservation 
easement with ALT. We'll be joined by 
neighborhood residents as we clear the trail and 
clean up the area. Bring work gloves and prepare 
for poison ivy. Refreshments will be provided. To 
get to the park, from downtown take North Avenue 
toward the bypass, and turn left on Northside 
Drive by the AutoZone. The Five Acre Woods is on the left.
