What's Going On
Don?t forget:
***The Athens Land Trust and The Oconee River Land Trust, both local non-profit organizations, present the 3rd annual Spirit of the Land Wine and Art Exhibition. The proceeds from the exhibition will go to land conservation in Oconee and Clarke counties, as well as other parts of Northeast Georgia. The Spirit of the Land Gala Event will take place this Saturday, March 31st.
Following on last year?s success, the land trusts again will host a curated exhibition and art sale featuring artworks by many well-known local and regional artists whose visions heighten our appreciation of the land. This year?s exhibit will be curated by René Shoemaker (Circle Gallery UGA), and our signature artist will be Alan Campbell. Other participating artists include Margaret Agner, Kenny Aguar, Rinne Allen, June Ball, Elizabeth Barton, Amy Bramblett, Toni Carlucci, Nancy Carter, John Cleaveland, Sally Coenen, Jen Graff, Flo Gross Applefield, Carol John, Philip Juras, David Lindsay, Dianne Penny, Scott Pope, Mary Porter, René Shoemaker, Jackie Slayton, Margie Spalding, Michael Stipe, Jim StipeMaas, Jason Thrasher, Lamar Wood, and The Cap Man.
On Saturday, March 31, the celebration will culminate in a terrific event at the Botanical Garden in the Garden Club of Georgia Terrace Room from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. It will feature live music by Tin Cup Prophette, hors d?oeuvres by Dondero's Kitchen, and tasting of high quality wines selected by Gosford Wine to reflect the ?spirit? of the land that produced them. The event will feature an auction of fine wines, gift certificates from local restaurants and businesses, local craft and gift items, and other surprises, including a signed photograph by Michael Stipe used on the cover of the R.E.M. "New Adventures in Hi-Fi" album.
Tickets for the Saturday evening Spirit of the Land event are $35 in advance or $40 at the door. Tickets are on sale at Gosford Wine, Homeplace Gifts, and both land trust offices. We hope that you will mark your calendars for this evening of inspiring art and celebration to benefit our land conservation efforts. Please call ORLT at 552-3138 or ALT at 613-0122 for more information.
